Given Oriental medicine’s long history of treating gynecological problems and infertility, it is not surprising that one of the most popular areas of international acupuncture research today is the field of fertility enhancement. Studies done in China, Germany, Italy, the United States and Sweden have demonstrated that acupuncture and herbal formulas can:

During your first appointment, Dr. Rozenn will take a detailed general and fertility-focused medical history. Then, her skills as diagnostician come to life as she reviews current laboratory and imaging reports AND conducts an extensive traditional physical examination consisting of tongue, pulse and Japanese style abdominal diagnosis. Very few acupuncturists are proficient in the Japanese style of abdominal diagnosis which can uncover, fallopian tube, ovarian, uterus, pituitary hormonal and hypothalamus issues before they are detectable on Western tests.
Only after all of these steps are taken, will Dr. Rozenn perform a Fertility Acupuncture treatment.
The acupuncture point prescription is unique to each woman and is determined by that individual’s Oriental medical diagnosis. For example, 10 women with the Western label of endometriosis might each receive a different Oriental medical diagnosis and thus be prescribed different herbal medicinals, acupuncture points, dietary suggestions and nutritional supplements. Men are evaluated by traditional methods, in addition to a semen analysis, which Dr. Rozenn can requisition for you at a Fertility Clinic Laboratory, (YES IT DOES MATTER WHERE YOU GET THIS TEST DONE).
In Western terms, how does fertility acupuncture work? Acupuncture helps to regulate the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Ovarian axis by increasing the levels of endorphins in your blood stream. As a result, your hormone levels become balanced, your ovulation becomes regulated, and your chances of conception increase. Another important way that acupuncture increases fertility is by promoting relaxation. Most modern women are busy, stressed and spread too thinly. This causes your body to be in a sympathetic nervous response, known as “fight or flight” mode. In this state, blood is shunted primarily to the eyes and muscles so that you can get away from the “lion” that is chasing you and deal with the stress in your life.
Acupuncture ends the “fight or flight” state, and puts you into a parasympathetic nervous response, where blood is shunted to your internal organs. In a parasympathetic state, you digest food, become very relaxed, and best of all, blood once again flows readily to your reproductive organs. Nature is smart: why would it let a zebra get pregnant if it’s constantly running away from lions?
In Chinese medicine terms, how does fertility acupuncture work? Acupuncture regulates the Qi and the Blood. Think of your endometrial lining as the soil in a garden, and an embryo as a seed. If your menstrual flow is clotty, painful or dark, the soil is not aerated, and the seed is not likely to grow. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs will change your flow to be a healthy bright red, pain free and smooth. If there is not enough endometrial lining (not enough soil for a seed to grow), the fetus doesn’t have the best chance either. Through dietary changes, herbal formulae and acupuncture, I can help your lining increase to appropriate levels for pregnancy.

“I am research scientist, and I have always been a little skeptical about acupuncture and other non-western medical practices. After my experience with Dr. Rozenn, however, I enthusiastically recommend her for the treatment of fertility issues. My husband and I were trying to conceive for the second time and after a year, we saw an M.D. specialist in infertility. He
