Dr. Maureen Rozenn, DAOM, LAC, FABORM has a doctoral degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine with a specialization in Pain Management. From this platform, she has developed her own protocols for treating acute and chronic pain that take into account contributing or causative factors such as metabolic imbalances, hormonal changes, structural issues and emotional factors.
Dr. Rozenn developed her own method of pain treatment. Blending acupuncture and Oriental medicine principals with her extensive Feldenkrais education, she is happy to offer Structural Acupuncture treatments. See below for more information!
Acute Pain
Sometimes patients see Dr. Rozenn right after acute traumas such as car accidents, surfboard collisions or simply trying to pick up the dog and becoming immobilized. These are generally uncomplicated acute injuries. Barring any preexisting conditions, patients heal rather quickly with treatments including: acupuncture, gua sha, cupping, moxibustion, herbal formulas, nutritional supplements and exercises.
Chronic Pain
But what about the back pain that has been steadily getting worse for ten years? You can’t remember what caused it, but you do know it hurts every morning when you get up. Or, how about that generalized muscle pain or joint stiffness that seems to have no rhyme or reason as to when it comes or when it goes? Mysterious numbness in the legs and arms, tight neck muscles and headaches…these problems plague millions of Americans.
Chronic pain requires an entirely different approach. Key questions include:
Can you relate it to an injury, or did it come on gradually over time?
How long have you had it?
What makes it better, what makes it worse?
Are you in an acute flare of a chronic condition, or is your pain level stable?
What therapies have you tried?

Patterns of inflammation and blockage may have developed over time. Why? Degenerative diseases and chronic pain syndromes are often the product of old injuries, dietary and lifestyle choices and/or habits of movement that continually strain ligaments, tendons and joints. Even hormonal imbalances can cause chronic pain!
“I had muscle pain for 15 years and tried everything, including hypnosis, massage, rolfing, Western and Eastern medicine and everything in between with no luck. Until I found Dr. Rozenn. In desperation I decided to try acupuncture one more time. She has changed my life! She is an extremely talented acupuncturist (and I have been to enough different ones to know a good one) and extremely professional. I would recommend her to anyone.” Pam D.–Santa Cruz
